Well, I really want to believe it. Not sure if everything in the Bible attributed to God is really from God though. A lot of the Old Testament stuff makes God seem like a childish, ego-driven maniac who doesn't even seem to understand or care about his own creation.

What you've said here is very disturbing, especially since it could well happen. The 'Right to Die' soon becomes the 'Obligation to Die.' I saw a woman on cable news yesterday, a 'fiscal conservative' who said society has no obligation to care for people like Terri Schiavo since she is an economic drain on the system. I can easily see this thought being applied to whole groups of people society deems without value. This is truly a frightening prospect!

This is probably the worst case of emotionalist hearsay I have seen in these threads. Rumors, rumors, rumors. They seem to be pretty effective as a smear campaign though.
Actually, Odrade, a good part of what the poster (that you replied to above) says has been entered in the court record under testimony. Go to terrisfight.org and look at all the affidavits. Trudy Capone may not be a reliable witness, but there are plenty of others who are. Michael's possessiveness is entered in the court record: he apparently kept track of the miles driven on Terri's car as a way of controlling her. Also, a radiologist testified about Terri's x-rays revealing broken and bruised bones which could have only have happened within the 12-18 months prior to her heart stopping. These have never been explained by anyone, and there is no record of her having received medical treatment for these injuries. (My sister was married to an abusive man, and this sounds suspiciously like a battered spouse situation. My parents, who were not JW's never knew a thing about the abuse; being the only member of the family who was also a JW, she confided only in me.

If Michael would allow an MRI this could provide some comfort to Terri's parents. If the MRI reveals that Terri's brain is nothing but jello then at least the could comfort themselves with the fact that she did not suffer. If you were in this position wouldn't you want every available diagnostic test done before they pulled the plug on you? I know I would.

Jeannie, thats exactly what Michael's afraid of - that Terri would get rehab and be able to let people know what really happened.
IMO the family should make the decision about what happens to Terri - not Michael who did not stand by her 'until death do us part' - but went out and created another family. BTW, Michael is NOT Catholic so there's no reason he couldn't have divorced Terri and remarried. Of course then he would have lost guardianship. Taking up with another woman and having children is a de facto divorce IMO.
Just saw the Supremes declined to review the case. So sad. Let's hope Gov. Bush will step in and prevent them from killing this innocent woman.
And BTW I have always been a pretty liberal democrat - didn't vote for George Bush either time and could never even imagine myself agreeing on anything with Tom Delay. But look at the video of Terri - there's a person there! Let her parents take her home and care for her, get her rehab and every sort of therapy they think is appropriate, and if there is no improvement, at least her parents don't have to watch her starve to death. I can't believe the state is making these poor parents go through this. This is just wrong!

Sarah, thank you for posting this. I just went to the site and did the petition.
I cannot believe that they are trying to kill Terri even though she can breathe on her own and only needs a feeding tube to survive. If her husband Michael had not been pushing for her death this wouldn't even be an issue. It seems like if he really cared about Terri then he would let her parents have guardianship and move on with his life. If she truly has no consciousness, then she has no awareness, no pain - why not give the parents the comfort of caring for her? On the other hand, if she does have some cognitive function, it would be murder to starve her to death based on a "hearsay" statement that she would not want to live that way. You can't even win a case in small claims court with hearsay evidence! Why would the courts allow someone to be starved to death based on this? Crazy!!
Makes me wonder who's next? The severely retarded, the mentally ill, old people?

btw, i had to make the decision along with my siblings to disconnect my mother from life support.
there is a point where it is better to let your loved one slip away, i think.

This is so sad....
Terri is not in a coma. She is not in a PVS (Persistent Vegatative State). She is not being kept alive by any artificial life support. She has never had a PET scan or MRI to prove that there is no higher brain function. These doctors hired by Michael Schiavo have no way of knowing she is in a PVS. But 17 doctors have come to the conclusion that Terri is NOT in a PVS, and she should be receiving therapy.
At the time Terri suffered her brain damage she was contemplating divorce from Michael Schiavo, who she was afraid of, and who it is intimated in court transcripts may have abused her physically and emotionally. Would you want such a spouse to make a life and death decision for you?
Michael Schiavo is the ONLY member of Terri's family who wants her to die. Every member of the Schindler family believes that Terri has some degree of awareness, and that with therapy she can regain functions such as swallowing and possible even talking. Why has Michael Schiavo refused to allow therapy for Terri for 12 years? Why did he suddenly 'remember' that Terri did not want to live in an incapacitated state seven years after she suffered the brain damage? Perhaps the trust fund was depleted at this point or perhaps there were questionable expenses? Why has Michael Schiavo had Terri's trust fund records sealed by court order from public view?
I lived in the Pinellas County, Florida area from 1990-1998. I read many articles about this in the St.Petersburg Times (a Pulitzer prize winning newspaper) and there were many unanswered questions regarding Michael Schiavo's behavior, and I had come to the belief at that time that Michael Schiavo most likely a very evil man.
Sadly, the Schindler's side of the story is not well known. Anyone with a sincere interest in Terri's welfare should go to www.terrisfight.org. There you can read court transcripts from doctors who actually examined Terri, friends of Terri who knew of the relationship problems she had with Michael, as well as several of her former caregivers who testify that they believe she has cognitive function.
I hate the fact that this has become a political hot potato, but I'm worry even more that our courts could make a decision to terminate a human life in a case where there does not exist clear brain death, or an irreversible and declining state of health that would eventually lead to death in and of itself.
